Sharon at home

Sharon was my brother's soulmate

Sharon was a beautiful person, a good soul, a loving, kind and compassionate mum. She married my brother. They met in high school, settled and had two kids. But everything changed forever the day Sharon was hit and killed by a drunk driver. Like many women, she was the glue that kept the family together. Her daughter was just 8, her son 6 when the accident happened.
Their father Richard was in his early 30s. It was a long time ago now, but I know this tragic event has continued to reverberate and cause anguish. Richard is now in his 50s, he has never remarried. He has battled the effects of alcohol addiction ever since. His son was a naturally bright child with so much potential, but he developed a drug habit in his teens –  in no small part, I suspect, because he was left unwatched and without the guidance of his loving mother. He once told a counsellor he would be 'forever angry' with drink drivers. As for Sharon’s daughter, emotionally, she has suffered terribly for not having a mum to show her the way. The physical carnage gets cleared away. The emotional impact and consequences stay long after. Lives are changed forever. Please if you're going to drink, don't drive. This stuff happens to everyday people. No one is immune.
