Slow down

Speeding is dangerous. It is not safe to speed in any circumstance, regardless of how experienced a driver you are, how good your car is, or whether you are driving on busy city streets or open country roads.

The faster you go, the longer it takes to stop and the harder you will hit another vehicle, person or object.

Tips to avoid speeding:

  • focus on the driving task
  • plan ahead and allow enough travel time to get to your destination
  • if you are running late, call ahead to your destination before you leave to let them know you will be late—it is better to arrive a little late than not at all
  • don’t drive when you’re angry or frustrated
  • look out for roadside speed signs and adjust your speed accordingly
  • adjust your speed to cater for driving conditions, such as road conditions, bad weather, poor visibility, and traffic flow and volume
  • be aware of the default speed limit in local built-up areas—you should drive no faster than 50 kilometres per hour unless there is a sign stating otherwise
  • be aware of school zone speed limits when driving past schools in the morning and afternoon.

Slow down. Be here. Here for Life.
