Be safe as a passenger
Buckle up
As a passenger, you have both rights and responsibilities. To help you, your driver and other passengers be Here for Life, make sure everyone wears a seatbelt.
Seatbelts increase your chance of surviving a serious crash by 50 per cent.
Sadly, approximately 30 people die and 250 are hospitalised each year as a result of not wearing seatbelts.
Has everybody got a seat?
No-one should travel in any part of a motor vehicle that is not designed for passengers, or not an enclosed part of the vehicle such as the boot or the back of a utility.
Be prepared. Think ahead
If you know that there will be too many passengers for the one vehicle, organise an extra vehicle or a maxi taxi for the whole group. The cost is relatively low when shared between a few people and it could save lives.
‘No thanks’ to drunk or drugged drivers
Don’t ever get into a car if the driver has been drinking, taking drugs, or is tired.
And never encourage the driver to speed, show off or hoon around. Someone could easily die.
Take your responsibilities as a passenger seriously.
Buckle up, speak up if your driver is not driving safely and be Here for Life.
That's the spirit
